Turboprop Systems Training: Cessna Caravan G1000 and ATR 42 Manuals
October 5, 2026Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress: Historic Pilot Training Manual
October 12, 2026The Cessna 172 is the most-produced aircraft in history, so it is no surprise that its Pilot Operating Handbook (POH) is one of the most searched-for manuals in general aviation. But “Cessna 172 POH” is not a single document – it changes by model year and configuration. Here is what you need to know.
Why the model year matters
A 1970s 172M, a 172N, and a modern 172S with a G1000 glass cockpit share a name but have different limitations, performance charts, and systems. Always match the POH to your exact serial number and model year, not just “Cessna 172”.
What the 172 POH contains
Like all modern general aviation handbooks, the 172 POH follows the GAMA layout: General, Limitations, Emergency Procedures, Normal Procedures, Performance, Weight & Balance, Systems, Handling/Service, and Supplements. The Supplements section is where avionics and optional-equipment data live – check it carefully for your airplane.
Using the performance charts
Takeoff and landing distance, cruise performance, and fuel burn all come from Section 5. Learn to interpolate for your actual weight, pressure altitude, and temperature rather than reading a single line.
