AFM vs POH: The Difference Between an Aircraft Flight Manual and a Pilot Operating Handbook

Cessna 172 POH: What’s Inside and Why It Matters
October 6, 2026Modern turboprop cockpits are built around integrated avionics, and that’s changed what “aircraft systems” training actually means. Instead of learning individual gauges, pilots now learn a glass-panel logic that spans multiple aircraft types — which is exactly the gap these systems-specific manuals are built to fill.
The G1000 Standard
Garmin’s G1000 integrated flight deck has been factory-standard on a wide range of turboprops and singles since 2003, and the newer NXi version extends that with wireless connectivity and enhanced situational awareness tools. Because so many different aircraft share the same underlying G1000 logic, dedicated G1000 training materials are often more useful than generic type manuals for pilots transitioning between G1000-equipped platforms.
Cessna Caravan G1000 Training
We carry three G1000-specific resources for the Caravan family: the FlightSafety Caravan EX/Caravan G1000 Pilot Training Manual Rev 3.1, the FlightSafety Caravan 208 G1000 Pilot Training Manual, and the companion FlightSafety Caravan 208 G1000 Pilot Training Materials.
ATR 42: Systems and Maintenance Training
For pilots and technicians working the regional turboprop side, we also carry the ATR 42 Pilot Training Manual Volume 2 – Aircraft Systems and the ATR 42 Maintenance Training Manual Volume 1, covering one of the most widely flown regional turboprops in commercial service worldwide.
Looking for Airframe-Specific Caravan Documentation Instead?
If you need the Caravan’s POH, AFM or general maintenance manual rather than G1000-specific training material, see our Caravan documentation guide and the full Aircraft Systems category for more systems-focused volumes.
